Fresh Elish Fish
If you love fish and want to have the best bargain of having it fresh and cheap-- all you have to do is go to the Mawa Bazaar-- a two hour drive from Dhaka city. But here is the catch: you must start by 4:30am from Dhaka because the Mawa fish market starts at sunrise and ends by 7:30am. The Mawa ghat bazaar has been drawing fishermen from different parts of Padma River from the British era. By sunrise, they unload their fresh catch and open up their temporary shop or sell the day’s catch directly to the wholesalers. You will be amazed to see the quality and size of diverse river fishes ranging from Batashi, Hilsa, Rui, Katla, Mola, Dhela, etc. Typically these fishes end up in various bazaars of Dhaka.
